Below you will find the information about the current Developmental Season Offerings.  These are tryout-based teams so a position on the team is not guaranteed.  Tryouts dates are listed below for the groups.   This season is offered separately from rec soccer, so your player can still be a part of the rec program (separate sign up).  

BU15 Winter League Select Season (2011/2010)

Good morning SWYSC,
You will find information regarding the Boys U15 (birth years 2010/2011) select team,
below. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected]. Please
register for tryouts at swysc.com - Whidbey FC BU15 '24. Your player must be a
2010/2011 birth year to tryout.

Whidbey FC Winter 2025
2nd week of January running through March

Tryouts Dates- (Register at SWYSC.COM)
01.11.25 From 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Location TBD
01.13.25 From 3:30 P.M. to 4:45 P.M. Location TBD
$35 tryout fee. If accepted by the team, the fee will be credited.
$100 Total
($100 CLUB FEE)
Uniforms will need to be purchased if you didn’t play this fall or if your footballer needs to
size up.
Costs Includes: Insurance, Field/Ref game costs, training gear, tournament fees.

Calendar-
Practice weekly Tuesday and Thursday: starting 01.14.25 Field location and Time TBD.

BU11 Winter League Select Season (2014/2015)

SOUTH WHIDBEY ISLANDERS FC -  BOYS U11 SELECT TEAM TRYOUTS (BIRTH YEAR 2014/2015)

Tryout date: Sunday January 12th, 12:00pm - 2:00pm, SW Elementary School, North Campus

Tryout fee: $35

Cost: $150 ($35 tryout fee will be applied to this total if you make the team)

Dates: Jan 27th- April 12th 

Coaches: Amos Morgan, Michael Davidson, Nathan Davis

Practices: Practice starts week of Jan. 27th, 1-2x/week. They will be a mix of (hopefully) indoor and outdoor, either at the Sports Complex, Elementary School, and Community Center. Days and times will be determined once the basketball schedule is known. 

Games: 6 games (3 home, 3 away off-island) played on Saturdays or Sundays between Feb. 22 and April 12th. That schedule won’t release until early - mid February.

Uniforms: We will use our fall season uniforms. New players will be required to purchase uniforms which cost $100 total for home and away kits.  We will use these uniforms again for the summer and fall.  

Basketball/Baseball/REC Soccer Crossover:  There is a potential (depending on game schedules) for 4 weeks of crossover with basketball and 1 week with baseball.  Playing multiple sports can be very beneficial and we’re very supportive of kids playing a variety of sports. We will do our best to accommodate our multi-sport families with practices and game schedules. There will be no select season during rec and we encourage everyone to participate in the SWYSC Spring season!

 

What to Bring:

-Water Bottle

-Goalies: bring goalie gloves

 

What to Wear:

-Cleats and shin guards (both required)

-Layers suitable for the weather, especially a rain jacket if it is wet. 

 

Additional Details:

Arrive 10-15 minutes early to check in and start getting warmed up

 

**Just to reiterate, this is a tryout format and not all who tryout will be given a spot.  Please keep this in mind when considering the readiness of your player both physically AND emotionally**

Tryout date: Saturday January 18th, 11:00am-1:00pm, SW Elementary School, North Campus

Tryout fee: $35

Cost: $150 ($35 tryout fee will be applied to this total if you make the team)

Dates: Jan 27th- April 12th 

Coaches: Annie Mah, Arlin Peterman, and Ryan Putnam

Practices: Practice starts week of Jan. 27th, 1-2x/week. They will be a mix of indoor and outdoor, either at the Sports Complex, Elementary School, or Island Church of Langley.   Days and times will be determined once the basketball schedule is known. 
 
Games: 6 games (3 home, 3 away off-island) played on Saturdays or Sundays between Feb. 22 and April 12th.

Uniforms: We will use our fall season uniforms. New players will be required to purchase uniforms which cost $100 total for home and away kits.  We will use these uniforms again for the summer and fall.

Tryout fee: $35
Cost: $150 ($35 tryout fee will be applied to this total if you make the team)
Jersey fees are separate (approximately $100.00)
Dates: Jan 27th- April 12th 
Coaches: Matt Gutzmer, Lake Smith, Erin Gutzmer (team manager)
Practices: Practice starts week of Jan. 27th, 1-2x/week. They will be a mix of indoor and outdoor, either at the Sports Complex or Elementary School. Days and times will be determined once the basketball schedule is known.  
Games: 6 games (3 home, 3 away off-island) played on Saturdays or Sundays between Feb. 22 and April 12th.

Who Should Try Out:
Passionate Players: Kids who love soccer and are eager to improve their skills.
Committed Athletes: Players willing to commit to regular practices, games, and some travel.
Skilled Individuals: Those who have a good grasp of basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending.
Team Players: Children who work well with others and understand the importance of teamwork.
Physically Fit: Players who have good endurance, speed, and agility.
Coachability: Kids who are open to feedback and willing to learn from coaches.
Evaluation Criteria:
Technical Skills: Ball control, passing accuracy, shooting power, and dribbling.
Physical Attributes: Speed, agility, strength, and overall fitness.
Tactical Understanding: Awareness of positioning, movement off the ball, and decision-making.
Mental Attributes: Attitude, effort, resilience, and ability to handle pressure.
Character: Sportsmanship, communication, and respect for coaches and teammates
