SOUTH WHIDBEY GIRLS U11 SELECT TEAM TRYOUTS (BIRTH YEARS 2014/2015/2016)
General Information: This is an exciting opportunity for young girls who are passionate about soccer and are ready to take their skills to the next level.
Tryout date: Sunday January 12th, 11:00am-1:00pm, SW Elementary School, North Campus Upper Field
Tryout fee: $35
Cost: $150 ($35 tryout fee will be applied to this total if you make the team)
Jersey fees are separate (approximately $100.00)
Dates: Jan 27th- April 12th
Coaches: Matt Gutzmer, Lake Smith, Erin Gutzmer (team manager)
Practices: Practice starts week of Jan. 27th, 1-2x/week. They will be a mix of indoor and outdoor, either at the Sports Complex or Elementary School. Days and times will be determined once the basketball schedule is known.
Games: 6 games (3 home, 3 away off-island) played on Saturdays or Sundays between Feb. 22 and April 12th.
Uniforms: Players will be required to purchase home and away uniforms which cost approximately $100.00. We will use these uniforms again for the summer and fall.
Basketball/Softball/REC Soccer Crossover: There is a potential (depending on game schedules) for 4 weeks of crossover with basketball and 1 week with softball. We are very supportive of kids playing a variety of sports and we will do our best to accommodate our multisport families with our practice load and game schedules. Spring select league does not overlap with spring rec league, so players are encouraged to participate in both if they wish.
What to Bring:
-Water Bottle
-Goalies: bring goalie gloves
What to Wear:
-Cleats and shin guards (both required)
-Layers suitable for the weather, especially a rain jacket if it is wet.
Additional Details:
Arrive 10-15 minutes early to check in and start getting warmed up

Passionate Players: Kids who love soccer and are eager to improve their skills.
Committed Athletes: Players willing to commit to regular practices, games, and some travel.
Skilled Individuals: Those who have a good grasp of basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending.
Team Players: Children who work well with others and understand the importance of teamwork.
Physically Fit: Players who have good endurance, speed, and agility.
Coachability: Kids who are open to feedback and willing to learn from coaches.
Evaluation Criteria:
Technical Skills: Ball control, passing accuracy, shooting power, and dribbling.
Physical Attributes: Speed, agility, strength, and overall fitness.
Tactical Understanding: Awareness of positioning, movement off the ball, and decision-making.
Mental Attributes: Attitude, effort, resilience, and ability to handle pressure.
Character: Sportsmanship, communication, and respect for coaches and teammates
**Just to reiterate, this is a tryout format and not all who tryout will be given a spot. Please keep this in mind when considering the readiness of your player both physically AND emotionally**
