Hi SWYSC Members,
We need youth soccer referees and that means you! Games don’t happen without referees and this is a great way to support soccer on South Whidbey and get paid for doing it!
Referees get paid between $25 and $90 per match, depending on role and age group of the game! Referees need to be certified by the state referee association, so a training clinic is required prior to working games. This is a good thing for players and parents, as you have a chance to learn the rules! It will make you a better player and more understanding of how referees manage games!
Review the below bullet points and let me know if you have any other questions or want more info!
Here is some info for you:
- Seasons are in fall and spring, for 6-7 weeks.
- Games are typically on Saturday (select games vary).
- Refs can work as much or as little as they are able and can work back to back games
- Requirements of game will be based on age group of teams
- Certification is required but I would rather get people on board first and help sort out certification
Certification details below:
- Certification basically takes online modules, plus a one-day course.
- Certification courses are offered at various times and can be viewed here--> https://www.wareferees.org/AvailableClinics.aspx
- Available Clinics - wareferees.org
- Available Washington Clinics to become (or recertify as) a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Official: In order to determine what type of clinic is needed, please select the appropriate status of the clinic attendee: www.wareferees.org
- In the dropdown on that page, you would select "Become a referee: Never been a USSF referee before" and review the options. You can sign up for any clinic that is listed there. There should be an info and registration link there.
- There is quite a substantial amount of pre-work required (probably 5 or 6 hours!) before attending the clinic, so take that into account!
- If the timing doesn't work so well, you can push it out a few weeks (or months) and attend a different session, if need be!
- A Uniform is required
- Certification Fees and Uniform costs will be reimbursed by the Club after 5 officiated games
