Coaches and Managers Needed!

Dear SWYSC Members and Families,

Now that the Academy and our scrimmage sessions havefinished and we are in the midst of signups for the fall teams,we wanted to reach out with an offer to the aspiring coaches and managers out there.

For Coaches:

Some of you have helpedcoach before and may want to help again, while others might want to get involved for the first time. Going into next fall we anticipatehavingteams from U-6 up to U-19. Right now,we are mostly trying to fill positions at the younger age groups, U-10, U-8, and U-6 coed. There may also be opportunities to assistwith older teams. We know many of you have a soccer background already and we are committed to helping all new coaches so they feel comfortable leading apractice and guiding a team in a game. The club will offer plenty of support intheway of an intro to coaching workshop(date TBD), mentor coaches and training resources

Steps to becoming a coach:

  1. Everyone who intends to work with youth players must register on our website SWYSC.com.  Here you will be asked to go through some on-line training, Safesport, Concussion Training and Cardiac Training (these are WA state requirements). For first time coaches, this can take 2-3 hours but there is valuable information. After that, the Washington State Patrol does a background checkYou just submit your information and they do the restOnce that is completed, you are permitted to work with youth players. The first year training takes the longest, it takes much less time in subsequent yearsAny questions regarding signups, you can contact [email protected]

  1. We will be hosting a coaching workshop for parent volunteersNormally we would encourage attendance at one of the USSF State level license clinics, but they are not hosting any in person ones at this time so we will lead our own.

  1. Along with the coaching workshop, we will encourage you to do some online workshops depending on your preferred age groupLinks to these are found on the SWYSC website under Coaching resources.

Requirements:

  1. The most basic one is to be at practices.

  1. Be positive and enthusiasticKids will thrive on positive feedback so don’t hold back.

  1. Ask for help whenever you need it.

Coaching can be tremendously rewardingSeeing kids take what you have shown them and put it into their play will bring a smile.

For Potential Managers

Every team needs to have a manger. They are the point person for much communication and organization and support the work of the coach. They will work closely with the registrar in organizing the team, being a conduit between coach and parents and help organize various other team functions. We will offer new managers an info session and a welcome workshop (date TBD).

Questions?  You can contact our coaching director at [email protected].

Thank you!
