Refereeing

SWYSC supports training of referees from age 12 up for refereeing Club games. Periodically we hold a weekend-long clinic to train new refs; at the clinic, you receive instruction and sit a brief exam, after which you're qualified to referee. Refs are paid a per-game fee, based on the team league and the ref position (sideline or main). This is a great way for teenagers to earn some money and have a good time doing it.

From the Referee Assignor

I want say Thank You on behalf of Our Club to all the Referees who Officiate games here. Their dedication to the Game, to Fair Play and to advancing their skills with every game they do, is my motivation as your Referee Assignor. Allow me to congratulate and applaud those Parents, Spectators and Coaches who have attained the ability to allow the Referee at The Game to do their job without harangue or harrassment. While you Parent or Spectate or Coach…I want to assure you they will not usurp your position or insinuate their views on how to do those things ( Unless it infringes the Laws of the Game). Should you encounter any persons of those formerly mentioned categories who still feel it is within their franchise to object, persuade, or debate the Referees’ decisions, I hope you will bring it to my attention so I may intercede and enlighten them to a more constructive behavior. The Referees goal is to make the calls, in such cases as he or she deems important to the safety and fairness of the game, so that the end result is respect for the job they do, from both teams and their sidelines.

We need to preserve the dedication of each and every Referee that gets his or her Certification. Whether they have just completed their Entry Level Clinic or they have some years experience, they advance and learn with every game they do and thus so does our sport. Thanks to you all for your Sportsmanship and I will see you at the Games.
