There are 4 proposals that were presented at the recent Parks and Rec public
meeting. All the options included improved under-drainage to all grass fields
and a play/picnic area located at the Sports complex. Only option #3 discusses
turning the Upper field at the park into a multipurpose turf field. Option
#1 changes the dirt field into a multipurpose field with drainage, all the
other options utilizes the dirt field for some other type of structure. Because
there were several people who turned out to support the incorporation of
tennis facilities in the Park, all plans include one or more tennis courts,
some where the dirt field is now situated.
In all it appears there will be minimal impact to the soccer community with the exception of the dirt field area. I spoke with the Parks director who said that they are looking to have a joint venture with the School District to turn the HS football field into a multipurpose turf field. He also stated that the comments at the meeting had the plan leaning towards option #4. This will leave all the grass fields as is but uses the dirt field for a tennis complex. There will be one last public meeting where a single proposal will be made, comprised of the comments at the previous meeting. That meeting would likely be our last time to make comment on the Master Plan for the Park. All the options and the minutes from the public meeting, along with more information, is available at http://www.swparks.org/about/happening.htm.
SWYSC's logo contest is now closed. The winners were Jodi Buschko and Chris Baldwin; thanks, guys! We're going to modify Jodi's design a little, and use it on uniforms and correspondence. Click here to see the entries.
